Acer Aspire TimelineX 4830T Laptop Review

Acer Aspire TimelineX 4830T Laptop Review
New laptops in 2011 : The first thing you’re going to notice is the design – Acer went for the two-color option and the results seem nice. A key element that has been changed is the keyboard which now joins the chiclet family. Acer kept the same slim profile so the 4830T looks good even when closed.

The first Timeline models we’re underpowered laptops that we’re good all day long at sending emails and reading boring office files. Not so with the current 4830 since Acer has chosen the Intel Core i5-2410M running at 2.3GHz with 4GB of RAM and Intel GMA 3000 graphics. So far the specs are the same as the entry-level Macbook Pro 13-inch, but the things change when you take a closer look at the spec sheet. In the 4830T you get more storage – 500GB 5400RPM, a bigger screen with improved resolution: 14-inch 1366×768 display, Dolby Home Theater v3 speakers, a 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI, VGA, two USB 2.0, one USB 3.0, audio in and out ports.

Furthermore you can squeeze up to 9 hours of battery life (as opposed to the Pro’s 7 hours mark) when running Windows 7 Home Premium. Wireless and Bluetooth 3.0 are there also and a 1.3MP webcam will take care of your videoconferencing.

At the moment we don’t know the price or the availability but judging by Acer’s website, the now old 4820T had a starting price of 679$ so we shouldn’t see any major changes here.

So, the question needed to be answered is this: would you buy the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4830T or pay nearly double that for a shiny Macbook Pro?
