Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S6510 / 14.1-inch Laptop Review

Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S6510 / 14.1-inch Laptop Review
When most people think about a business laptop they don’t think about an ultraportable also. The Fujitsu Lifebook 6510 may just change your minds about this though. Weighing in at only 4 lbs. this ultraportable notebook sports and 14.1-inch” widescreen, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 cpu, 2Gb ram. Fujitsu has accomplished something here that many notebook manufacturers have not. A fast ultraportable with enough power to run today’s high end business applications.

Overall the notebook is sleek in its design, from the wide 14.1-inch screen to its dvd burner. This model also comes equipped with a 1.3 mega pixel web cam. The 120 Gig hard drive is adequate for business class notebooks.

The system offers up 3 usb ports and a firewire along with an s video jack on the front next to the headpone and microphone jacks. It also boasts all of your legacy ports that include Vga, Ethernet and a modem.

Fujitsu also included adequate security measures in this notebook. Including a fingerprint reader, Smartcard reader, and TPM (Trusted Platform Module) makes this a nice notebook for security and speed. The only thing it doesn't have is cellular broadband, which is important if you're on the road most of the time and require a ubiquitous wireless connection. Otherwise, you can use the built-in WiFi.

Putting low voltage processors in notebooks is being done by a lot of manufactures now to trim weight, not only because they have a smaller footprint, but also the consume less energy. The other side to this is that as you load applications on them they tend to slow down and not have enough power to do what you need them to. This is not the case with the Fujitsu Lifebook S6510, the 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 is the kind of processor found in desktop replacement laptops. The 2Gb ram is necessary to run Windows Vista Business.

Looks like the fans inside of this notebook are also top notch as the highest temperature rating was 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The only problems I see in this notebook are the keys are a little mushy and it doesn’t have discreet graphics. The discreet graphics are not a big deal to those looking for a business notebook.

Battery life is also good measuring 3 hours and 45 on a single charge. You may remove the dvd drive and add an extra battery and this will put it into the 6 hour range according to Fujitsu.

All in all this is a great notebook for the price ($2,039 direct) and will be a serious competitor to those looking for a great business class notebook. I give this particular notebook an eight on my geek-o-meter. Great options and great performance just some minor annoyances.
